WHAT IS SWEAT?
Sweating is a natural body secretion, it’s good for the body because it helps regulate body temperature, eliminate waste and toxins, keeps skin moisturized, and maintains overall skin wellness. But let's face it, no one wants to smell bad, staying pHresh is pHresh! Sweat contains water, salt, and minerals, a byproduct of protein metabolism. Sweat hydrates the skin and other waste products that need to be eliminated from the body. An added value, sweat contains antimicrobial peptides that help protect the skin from infection.
The amount and type of sweat produced can vary based on factors such as exercise, heat, stress, diet, emotions, environment and hormone levels. Despite its role in maintaining health, excessive sweating can cause discomfort and can be a symptom of underlying medical conditions. Consult a physician if you are experiencing excessive sweating it could be a sign of an underlying condition, such as hyperhidrosis or an overactive thyroid.
WHY SWEATING IS IMPORTANT?
Sweating is an important part of the body's natural detoxification process, as it helps to eliminate toxins from the body. It is important to keep the skin clean and dry to prevent bacteria growth and skin irritation.
A common sweat blocker is antiperspirants, which contain aluminum-based compounds like electrolytes like sodium and potassium. It forms a gel-like plug in the sweat ducts and prevents sweat from reaching the surface of the skin. Sweating helps to flush out toxins and impurities from the pores, which can help to prevent acne and other skin problems. Sweating is also a natural way to moisturize the skin, which can help to keep it soft and supple. Overall, sweating is an essential function of the body that helps to maintain good health and healthy skin. Sweating helps to eliminate toxins and waste products from the body, supporting healthy detoxification and elimination processes.
CARCINOGENS AND ANTIPERSPIRANTS
There is much debate about the correlation between aluminum in aluminum-based deodorants being absorbed through the skin and accumulating in the lymph nodes, potentially leading to health problems, unofficially and officially related to Cancer.
Some research suggests that aluminum-based compounds, which are applied frequently and left on the skin near the breast, may be absorbed by the skin and cause estrogen-like effects (hormonal). Estrogen has the ability to promote the growth of breast cancer cells, as suggested by scientists, directly related to the aluminum based compounds in antiperspirants and the development of breast cancer.
Parabens are chemicals used as preservatives found in many types of make-up (like lipstick, mascara, concealer, and foundation) and skin care products (like lotion, shaving products, antiperspirant, and sunscreen). Parabens can be absorbed through the skin. Parabens have been raised as a possible health concern because lab studies have shown that they have weak estrogen-like properties. Estrogen is a female hormone known to cause breast cells (both normal and cancer cells) to grow. (Source: American Cancer Society)
